88 Acres of Anarchy

The Skatopia Documentary, 88 Acres of Anarchy, follows pro-skater and dictator of a rural Appalachian skate scene, Brewce Martin, for a year as he struggles to keep Skatopia thriving with the help of the local scene. The documentary focuses on his drive to achieve success on his own terms with the epitome of a skate-and-destroy attitude. Allegedly the Skatopia scene sent Bam Margera fleeing the scene on his first visit.  Can’t imagine that, but it sounds entertaining…

Anyhow, here is the trailer:

2009’s version of 1978 Skateboaring Pool Competition

Pool skateboarding in the in late 70’s  was only just starting to take off as a competitive style when Steve Alba won the first professional pool contest during the Hester-ISA Skateboard Pro Bowl Series at Skateboard Heaven, Spring Valley,
California. Thirty+ years later, at age 46, Salba is still ripping after taking 9th place on the Legends skatepark course at X Games 2009. Last year was the first year the Legends skateboard park event was held during the ESPN X Games and it has helped return skateboarding to its roots.  Parks are popping up everywhere these days and it remains the single most important factor for many old-timers to continue the skate sessions as much as the wife and kids will allow. Cheers to Mr. Alba!

Here is some sweet footage of the Salba bowl master:

Rune Glifberg wins XGames 2009 Skate Park Gold

Chad Bartie and Andy MacDonald put on an amazing show in the Skate Park finals yesterday.  Andy MacDonald had some insane lines and was the only one who could go over the hole of death both ways, one right after the other.  He also pulled a McTwist out for his last run in the deep end of the bowl.  Chad Bartie flew around with reckless, controlled abandon as he did insane lip tricks all over the park.

However, Rune Glifberg took the gold medal, again.  The lines this dude carves out in this and any skatepark is legendary.  His speed is unmatched in the skate park competition and, I am assuming any bowl or skatepark he rides.  ESPN video doesn’t really capture the last run all that well.  We posted a practice run of his so you can see his speed.  I assume one of his final runs will appear on youtube soon enough.

I believe Team Pain made this half cement, half wood dream park.  I have no idea how they made it, but it looked good.

Foreclosures and Abandoned Homes in Fresno Lead to Sick Skateboard Documentaries

Draining abandoned pools in order to carve lines is no new thing, but a new documentary by Stephen Payne called Fresno definitely gives us a reason to smile during these shitty economic times. Check out this sick trailer for Fresno which should be due out by July some time:

You can order a pre-sale copy which will help with production here by clicking on this link
