Dog Town Venice Skatepark Grand Opening

On October 3, 2009, the veil was lifted on the skateboard heartland’s new 17,000 square foot, beach-side, skatepark. The park was designed by the Wormhoudt team. Man, I wish I coulda been there opening day. Now a reason to get back to SoCal. Enjoy this little clip:

Red Bull’s Manny Mania 2009

The Red Bull Manny Mania is in full effect for it’s third year. After the kickoff on June 7th in New York, the first ever pro manual skateboarding contest continued traveling across the country. Here is some of the footage from Chicago:

Team Pain Skate Art Pieces

Team Pain has come up with one of the best, most creative ideas for the skateboarding culture in a long time. They are making pieces of art made of steel and concrete that are perfect to skate. These pieces will be sold all over to skateparks and cities who want to please the townsfolk with the art as well as the skaters with the creative street objects.

Another Skatepark Plaza in SoCal

On June 21st—Go Skateboarding Day 2009—the opening of the P-Rod Skatepark took place at Ritchie Valens Recreation Center in Pacoima. Paul Rodriguez Jr. (A.K.A. P-Rod) along with co-designer Lance Mountain recreated certain street spots such as

  • skate plaza brick banks;


  • Griffith Park

  • Norcal stair gap

With funding from Nike, the LA84 Foundation and LA Parks and Recreation another skate plaza has been born.
